What is Facebook? Facebook is a social networking service that was launched in February 2004, founded by Mark Zuckerberg along with his college roommates and fellow students. The website's membership was initially limited by the founders, to Harvard students and Ivy League schools, but was quickly expanded over the years all over the world. Currently Facebook is the world's largest social network, and has over 955 million active users. Facebook's mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected. Millions of people use Facebook every day to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet. From a personal perspective Facebook is probably one of the easiest ways to search and find anybody who you might know or want to get to know, when it comes to many different types of relationships.

Some of the things that make Facebook's service different from the traditional media such as newspapers, television, and film are that it's comparatively inexpensive and accessible to allow anyone to publish or access information. Traditional media is considered to be the original sources of information in a one-way conversation towards its readers or viewers, a controlled communication. Whereas with social media the power has shifted to the people and it's now a two-way conversation between one person to another, an unstructured communication. Interaction between people is the main advantage of social media. Facebook allows users to continuously stay in touch with friends, relatives and other acquaintances wherever they are in the world. Though there are many social networking sites throughout the web, each for a different purpose, the three comparable websites are Myspace, Facebook, and Google+. As time has passed, each new social networking site surpasses the former most popular site. Myspace is now viewed by most as the ruins of the Internet, while Facebook is now an overpopulated suburb, leaving Google+ to take the image of a futuristic, industrial city. When comparing the three sites, it is easy to see the pros and cons of each, and which aids in productivity and accessibility the most.

Google+ understands the user more than any social networking site in existance today. It combines all forms and aspects of media for an optimal sharing experience. With Google+, one can access and manage their email, photos, videos, calendar, word processor, blogs and RSS feeds and much more all in one place. This gives every user the ability to experience accessibility, efficiency, and productivity while on the web. Privacy and content the user views on this site is completely customizable. With Google+’s “circles”, one can choose who views their posts and profile information and vice versa with the click of a button and by sorting people into different “circles” such as friends, family, and acquaintances. Google has the same features as Myspace and Facebook, including fan pages. The fan pages on Google+ connect the user with their interests in a whole new level. Google fan pages link the user with YouTube results, webpages and official websites, photos and news updates of any celebrity or trend. With as many features as Google+ provides for each user, no other social networking site is needed.
